Moi University revenge against MMUST flops as #KUSA7s continue

Nobert Lubwani converted John Bahati’s last minute try to deny Arsonists, the Moi University ruby team their second win at the 4th leg of Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) sevens series at the Moi University’s Father Kizito ground.

In a highly charged final match in pool A, favourites Masinde Muliro Unoversity of Science and Technology (MMUST) went ahead in the opening minutes through Felix Wamocho’s penalty try to give Kakamega based 0-07 lead.

But Ali Mbaraka led charges produced a sterling performance in the second half with Kevin Wanyonyi scored between the posts as Brian Chemase converted to level the score for the hosts.

Tony Khatambi touched down again with Chemase shooting past the posts to give hosts a 14-07 lead. With sin-bins taking centre stage in the temperamental evening match, Bahati managed to squeeze between Moi defenders to land the second try that was well converted by Lubwani for a 14 all score.

The draw was an improvement for Moi who lost to MMUST 12-27 two weeks ago at their backyard as they went ahead to win the second title following their other win in the opening leg at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM).

 In the opening match, MMUST thrashed Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) 19-07 while Moi won by similar margin against DeKUT.

Hosts will now meet Coperative University in the third quarterfinal while MMUST play The University of Eldoret in the 4th quarterfinal.

UoE will be hoping to set a sweet revenge against MMUST who eliminated them in the last meeting in semifinal. MMUST won 31-07.

UoE finished second in pool C after winning their opening two matches against United States International University (USIU) 07-05 and 12-07 against Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) before losing the last pool match 0-12 against Kabarak University.

Kabarak won all their matches when they beat JKUAT 17-0 and 21-07 against USIU.

In pool B, Zetech registered the highest score in the tournament when they opened a 27-0 against Technical University of Kenya (TUK) before losing 0-12 to Cooperative and rounded the day with a 14-0 over Daystar.

TUK remained at the receiving end, ending the day winless as they fell 5-12 to Cooperative.
