Moraa: I want to run for my fans at World under 20

World Under 18 400m silver medalist Mary Moraa has the passion to make a comeback to excite her fans when she lines up for World under 20 championships set for Nairobi in 2020.

The Africa under 20 400m champion said she made Kasarani in 2017 stand and salute her when she beat Alision Brendon and Tresse Reid from Brazil and Jamaica respectively to anchor Kenya team in the mix relays to qualify into the finals.

She called for fans to come to the stadium to witness better competition next year as they will be treated to better results on home ground.

“Kasarni was full, shouted, cheered and applauded my efforts when I defeated boys (Brendon and Tresse). I want to do the same when I line up at Kasarani next year to give back the same exemplary display of my running skills to my fans,” said Moraa.

While attending the Annual Athletes seminar in Eldoret, the Mogonga secondary schools alumni said she has what it takes to run well at the championships.

After winning silver in 2017, she went ahead to finish 4th at the World under 20 championships in Tampere, Finland before winning 2019 Africa under 20 title.

“I have been training well for the title chase. I know it will not be easy because the name Moraa is big in the world of athletics,” added Moraa.

As she waits to join Kenya Police, Moraa said she has laid good ground, to win her second gold and reclaim her position after finishing at the disappointing 4th in the junior championships last year.

Speaking beside Kenya Police head coach Isaac Kirwa, said under him, she has powers to do well.

“I have to say that Kirwa and his team visited my school and took me while in a uniform to join police Service. That is the spirit that a coach can do to an athlete. Becoming a police officer was my dream,” said Moraa admitting that she approached by Kenya Prison but declined.

Kirwa was optimistic that Moraa has an exemplary talent that no one can avoid to take it to the camp.

“my work is to search for talents and when I saw her run well both in national school championships, I knew I have a runner to fill a certain gap. And here she is,” assured Kirwa.
