Mosin, Kipkemoi triumph at Nairobi championships

Reigning Sotokoto 10km champion Reuben Mosim and Bernard Kipkemoi won their respective races at the Athletics Kenya Nairobi Regional championships held at Nairobi West Prison ground today.

Mosin edged out 2014 World Under-20 5,000m bronze medallist Moses Mukono for the fierce battle ahead of national trials where Athletics Kenya will be selecting a team to represent the country at the IAAF world championships in Doha, Qatar.

Mosim triumphed in 14:09.3 to relegate Mukono, the 2013 Africa Under-20 5,000m champion in 14:13.8 before Victor Chepkwony came in third in 14:29.1.

Bernard Kipkemoi won the men’s 5,000m in 14:14.2 beating Albert Tanui in 14:15.2.

It was a reprieve for reigning world cross country junior champion Beatrice Chebet, who was given a wildcard.

With Chebet, the reigning world under 20 5,000m champion absence, little known Zenan Cheptoo won the 5,000m clocking 17:30.0 but failed to attain the qualifying time.
