Mount Kenya championships: Edwin Mudanyi clinches title

With his focus shifted to Barclays Kenya  Open, Edwin Mudanyi won the Mount Kenya Championships, the second leg of Kenya Amateur Championships  (KAGC)hosted on par 72 Nyeri Golf club.

The reigning KAGC champion played four over 148 for the two day event that started on Saturday and ending today with golfers played 36 holes.

The vet Lab’s golfer started badly on day one shooting five over 77 and rearranged himself and shot one under 71 to claim the title as he matches on to kill two birds with a single stone, first to win a title at Kenya Open, which has never been won by Kenyans and secondly to defend his KAGC title.

“I am happy to clinch this year’s championships, which serves me confidence ahead of Kenya Open,” said Mudanyi.

He beat Saturday winner John Karichu with his impressive four birdies, two in each nine powered by cumulative pars to earn the title.

On Saturday, Mudanyi started with four pars and five bogeys in the first nine and added two birdies, six pars and a bogey for a total of five over 77.

The slow but sure golfer enjoyed the first nine on Sunday, sinking two birdies, six and a double bogey in the inward nine and added back to back birdies on holes 14 and 15 and seven pars to one under 72.

“This win has boosted confidence in my preparations for Barclays Kenya Open. All the hard work I have put in it, for sure it has given me much needed results.
