Shujaa finished 6th overall at the 4th leg of HSBC world rugby series at Hamilton today to move to eighth position on IRB standing.
The New Zealand meeting was good for Shujaa were drawn alongside Hamilton 7s champions; Fiji, France and Russia in Pool A of the fifth round of the series, the USA 7s in Las Vegas that will be played from March 2 to 4.
Shujaa scooped 12 points to add to the 10 they picked at the third leg- Sydney 7s- in Australia to complete what has been a successful tour.
Kenya started the day by bowing out of the Main Cup quarters with a 12-33 reverse to Sydney 7s champions, Australia before beating Scotland 33-19 in the fifth-place semi.
Shujaa fell to a narrow 15-19 loss to improving Samoa in the subsequent decider with the latter turning the tables on Kenya who defeated them in the group phase.
Shujaa did all they could, but Samoa’s brilliant start was the imperative factor in seeing them earn fifth place.
Kenya topped Pool D after the first two rounds of matches courtesy of their 19-14 victories over Samoa and Canada.
Samoa’s loss to Kenya, but late 14-10 victory over the USA, meant that they had to win their final encounter against Canada by more than 10 points to progress into the Cup quarter-finals.
