Mount Kenya Championships: On-form John Karichu enjoys overnight shot

Limuru based John Karichu extended his superlative form to Nyeri in this weekend’s Mount Kenya championships, the second leg of Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC).

After winning last Sigona Bowl, beating Nyali golfer Daniel Nduva on sudden death, Karichu will enjoy the overnight lead with a single shot after playing level on par 72 Nyeri golf course.

Karichu started well with back to back pars on holes 1-3 on pars four, three and five respectively. He slipped, sinking a bogey on hole four par four before recovering with two birdies on holes five and six, he parred again on two holes-seven and eight and ended the first nine with double bogey par three.

In the outward nine, Karichu started well with a birdie on the opening hole, two pars, double bogey, another birdie and three back to back pars to finish on high to take overnight lead.

Golf Park’s Anthony Kinuthia is second with a single shot behind Karichu. Kinuthia played one over 73 same to Nelson Koech of Njoro who completed top three positions.

Royal Nairobi club’s Kelvin Juma played three over 75 together with Simon Njoroge of Railway Club.
