Parliamentary Committee on Sports and Culture was disappointed with the slow pace on renovation of Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret.
Led by Chairman Dan Wanyama who visited the facility today morning, the committee said that the ministry has failed to reach the said deadlines as they had agreed.
Wanyama, who also serves as the MP for Webuye West, said that they are disappointed on how the facility’s pace.
“There is a bit of disappointment because not much has been done and our worry is that the ministry of sports concerned is not up to task. We putting the ministry on notice that the time line must be met and if it doesn’t, our heads will roll,” said Wanyama.
Wanyama was concerned over projects stagnation. He said that because they cannot continue doing things badly failing to deliver to Kenyans.
“The public outcry is for the use of the facility. This stadium, hosts a lot of athletes and if we don’t put it well then we are doing a disservice to athletes and Kenyans. We are here to inspect this stadium ahead AFCON 2027,” said Wanyama.
“We are here on the ground to witness what ministry of sports has been telling us in parliament is the same on the ground. We cannot wait to be told in parliament but wants to see on the ground. This project started long time ago. We are hands on based on the previous experience we had,” added Wanyama who was accompanied by committee members like Yatta MP Basil Roberts
“We are disappointed because the work done is not what we had been told. That has given us reasonable doubts because there is no contractor working on the facility.”
With the facility being the supervisor, and Chinese firm handling construction works is set to receive a de[posit of kshs 300m from the budget of 3.5 billion.
“We want also to put the ministry of defence that oversees the facility that will take 15 months for completion. The ministry has promised that they are ready,” said Wanyama.
