Elvis Muigua edged out Mikael Kihara to win the 2023 Kenya Junior Match Play Championship title at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club on Thursday afternoon.
In a final play, the Kiambu golfer won 8-7 against Vet Lab’s Kihara.
Muigua beat Junior Strokeplay champion Krish Shah 4 and 3 in the semi-finals on Wednesday while Kihara defeated Adnan Merali.
“The tournament was very good so far up to the finals. I only had one shaky hole but otherwise it has been smooth sailing,” said Muigua who will now focus on the KAGC in the run up to the Magical Kenya Open.
Muigua, who was part of team Kenya that retained the Africa Region Four golf title in Ethiopia alongside Michael Karanga, Dennis Maara and John Lejirma, was the final favourite.
With no KAGC events this weekend, it was a reprieve for Muigua who has been taking on experienced golfers in the series.
At the quarterfinals, Muigua managed to triumph against Golf Park’s Trevor Ngotho (3-2), Krish beating Muthaiga’s Bianca Ngecu (6-4), Merali shining over club mate Ngondo Kimemia (5-4) and Kihara was too good for Kevin Anyien of Golf Park 4-3.
The four day event that teed off on Monday was good for Kihara who recorded the highest points in the qualifying round at the same venue.
