Musingu, Butere wins soccer titles as St Joseph’s Kitale dominate secondary school games

Highway High school and Butere girls are the Kenya Secondary schools Sports Association (KSSSA) football champions following the conclusion of term 2 ball games in Kisii.

In the boys, the Beldine Odimbe side Highway from Nairobi region defeated Musingu from Western 3-2 in post match penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Musingu’s Elvis Ochieng scored first in the 14th minute before Alvin Oloo leveled in the 32nd minute and went into penalties that Highway dominated.

Highway and Musingu will be joined by third placed St Joseph’s Kitale for the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association mid this month in Uganda. Kitale beat Kirangari 6-0 in the bronze medal play-off.

Butere Girls from Western beat Nyanza’s Nyakach girls 2-0 to seal the title. The two will be joined by St Joseph’s Kitale on the journey to Uganda.

Butere goals were scored by Junior Starlets player Lornah Faith, who will be in team Kenya ahead of FIFA Under 17 football extravaganza later in the year. The second was scored by Mercy Sakwa who converted from the spot kick.

Kwanthanze and Cheptil were volleyball champions in boys and girls respectively. Kwanthanze defeated Kesogon 3-2 (25-20, 26-28, 13-25, 26-24 and 15-10) while former champions Cheptil edged out East Africa champions Namwela in the five-setter at 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 22-25 and 15-09.

In netball, Oyugi Oagngo from Nyanza beat  AIC Bumala of Western 58-33 to retain the netball girls title.

In rugby 7s, Bwake from western and St Joseph’s Kitale were the winners.

St Joseph’s also managed to clinch both 3×3 basketball titles for both boys and girls.
