Mutheu and Juma shine as Kenya Aquatics National Junior Swimming Championships starts in Eldoret

Michelle Mutheu and Nagib Juma dominated in their categories in the opening round of the Kenya Aquatics National Junior Swimming Championships that is underway in Eldoret.

With the championships bringing together the best young swimmers from across the nation, showcased a spectacular display of talent and determination.

 The two-day event, which kicked off today has seen participants from as young as five years competing in various categories, highlighting the depth of future talent in the sport.

Competing in girls 7 and Under 100 SC Meter Individual Medley, Mutheu from Fithub Aquatics emerged as a star, clocking an impressive 1:54.37 to claim the top spot. Similarly, the Boys 7 & Under category saw Juma from Mombasa Aquatics Swim Club setting a blistering pace with a time of 1:47.61, solidifying his status as one to watch.

The championships are not just about individual brilliance; team events have also provided thrilling finishes.

Bandari Swim Club and Seahorses Aquatic Center have been particularly dominant in the relay events. The 200 SC Meter Medley Relay for Boys 10-Year-Olds was a highlight, with Seahorses Aquatic Center clinching victory in a closely fought race, finishing with a time of 3:26.06.

This event, which includes participants from neighboring countries like Uganda and Tanzania, underscores Kenya Aquatics’ commitment to broadening the sport’s appeal beyond traditional centers like Nairobi and Mombasa. The presence of international competitors has added an extra layer of excitement, making this one of the most anticipated events in the junior swimming calendar.

As the championships progress, all eyes will be on these young athletes as they continue to push the boundaries and set new standards in Kenyan swimming.
