Mwendwa suspend Rachier, Shikanda with fines on Gor and Leopards

Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa has suspended Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards chairmen Ambrose Rachier Dan Shikanda respectively.

The suspension comes after 24 hours when the duo marshaled their teams to snub the famous Mashemeji derby.

Today, Mwendwa also slapped the clubs with three points deduction with a fine of Ksh4 million for Gor and Kshs 6 million over Leopards.

The two clubs snubbed the derby claiming that the federation had not paid them Ksh3 million for Gor and Ksh 2 million for Leopards for winning the FKF Cup and runners up.

“We had written a letter to both clubs on July 8 and communicated we will pay them their Cup money by August 5. Rules are clear, you cannot refuse to honour a league match because of Cup money, it’s a joke and lack of seriousness considering as the Cup and league are two different competitions,” said Mwendwa.

“The clubs have been deducted three points each effective immediately. Leopards were the home team, and as a result, they have been fined Sh 6 million while Gor Mahia, who were the away team, have been fined Sh 4 million. They can appeal the decision provided they follow the right channel,” Mwendwa averred.

“AFC Leopards had written to us on Friday communicated change of venue (to Thika) stadium then they failed to show up for the match,” added Mwendwa.
