Rotich, Korir set for final Tokyo Games finals

World 800m bronze medalist Ferguson Rotich and Emmanuel Korir will face each other at the Olympic Games 800m final in Tokyo, Japan.

A win for Kenya will cement the country’s dominance in the two lap race where Kenya is expected to defend the title won by David Rudisha in 2016 and 2012 while Wilfred Bungei won the title in 2008.

Rotich won Heat 3 in 1:44.04 while Korir who bowed out in 400m after a fault start in the morning was second in Heat 1 behind Patryk Dobek of Poland.

Korir timed in 1:44.74 while race winner Dobek timed 1:44.60 but it wqas disappointing as national champion Michael Saruni finished a disappointing sixth in 1:44:54 in Heat 2 to miss the final slot.
