Sports cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba has lauded Athletics Kenya of being in forefront in fighting Climate Change ahead of the COP27 set for this month in Egypt.
Speaking in Eldoret and Nandi, the CS said that the federation forefront to fight climate change through setting up Air quality sensors in Eldoret and Kapsabet.
“I want to thank UNEP and Stockholm environment institute for the successful partnership that as develop through athletics Kenya and Its through such partnership that we have installed air quality sensors here in lobo and Eliud Kipchoge complex center, Moi sports center Kasarani, Nyayo stadium and Nakuru athletics club,” said Namwamba.
Namwamba said that Moving forward other federations will come on board to fight climate change.
“I want to celebrate lobo for many reasons, having taken around by this national icon Ibrahim Hussein it is a statement that the life an elite athlete has been inducted into the new York hall of fame did not end on the track or streets that we can extend that and continue to be useful to your community and your country,” said Namwamba.
Athletics Kenya president Jack Tuwei said that as the first federation to sign an agreement with the United Nation on climate change said that the sensoe has come at the right time as they plan to host the second edition of World Cross country Tour in Eldoret.
“As a federation, we appreciated the collaboration of environmental institution support to athletics Kenya in setting up the gadgets in different parts of Kenya. This is the 4th and 5th gadget in the country for the federation and the 6th in the country. Today we have uinstalled the two in Eldoret and kapsabet adding on the one at Moi sports center Kasarani, yayo stadium and Nakuru athletics club” said Tuwei.
Tuwei added that the Data from the centers will help put up measures to control air pollution in sporting venues and thus ensures that athletes will compete in a clean environment.
