Namwela and Kenya Prison teams dominate Eldoret City Open Volleyball tournament

It was an all Kenya Prisons’ dominance in day one of the inaugural Eldoret City Volleyball Open tournament that served off today at the Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu County.

Fresh from competing at the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association in Arusia, Tanzania, Namwela Boys was on top after winning their opening match.

In women, former Kenya Volleyball Federation league champions Kenya Prisons won all their two matches to top the charts ahead of tomorrow’s final match against their nemesis Kenya Pipeline Company to determine the winner in a round robin format.

With only four teams registered, it was an all win for the Josh Barasa coached side who took top honours in day one.

“Today we took it easy but we are waiting for tomorrow to see how things will turn out against KPC,” said Barasa.

The wardress beat Post Bank and Kenya Defence Forces KDF) in staright sets of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-16 and 25-27,17-25 and 20-25 respectively.

“The girls have been out for a while and playing today well and having won the matches prepares them for the Sunday’s matches where we expect to meet with our competitors Kenya Pipeline Company and we have to play well and win,” said Baraza.

In other women results, KPC beat Post Bank straight sets of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-16.

In men, prison won all their two matches, starting with 3-0 (25-16, 25-16 and 25-10) against Ugandan Stormers before beating hosts Rift Valley Prison 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 17-25 and 21-25.
