As she is set to graduate into senior category by January 2018, Sandra Chebet sent shivers among top athletes at the Isaiah Kiplagat Ndalat Gaa Cross Country championships in Nandi County.
Following her dominance in junior races, Chebet who competes alongside her sisters Emily and Miriam beat former Africa Youth 1,500m silver medallist Eva Cherono and former world half marathon bronze medallist Pascalia Jepkorir to lift the title following her dominance in the course for The last two years as a junior.
As Sandra exits the junior category, she lives behind her young sister Beatrice Chebet who finished second junior women category.
As she expects to feature in next year’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Sandra cut the tape in 28:07.6, a year after she won junior women’s title.
“My target is to make team to Africa Cross country and above all the Commonwealth Games in Australia,” said Sandra.
With a tight race, Sandra beat former Africa Youth 1,500m silver medalist Eva Cherono to second before former world half marathon bronze medalist Pascalia Jepkorir completed the podium.
Cherono, the Africa Junior 1,500m runner came second timing 28:31.6 followed by Jepkorir (28:40.3) who last Sunday finished second at the Durban 10km race in South Africa.
