New dates for Eldoret City Marathon set

Organizers of Eldoret City Marathon organizers have announced new dates after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the sports suspension last week.

Uasin Gishu governor announced the new dates and will be held on 6th June 2021 saying they are aware that because of COVID-19, they did not host the marathon but this year, they had to postpone but they are back.

“As county government, we shall be very keen to make sure that the organization of this race will fully comply with such guidelines with no irreducible minimums. We must comply in order to have a successful marathon.

He urged athlete to continue with the registration for the race. That will receive results electrically.

Race director Moses Tanui said they have acquired electronic timing ahead of the race.

“We also have the electronic timing system and bibs fitted with QR codes GPR that can read and interpret the system. This technology will be used for the first time in this marathon. A few number of such bibs have been presented to us. We are ready for the race ahead of us,” said Tanui.

Athletics Kenya Central Rift Chairman Abraham Mutai added his voice on the importance of electronic timing and attracting foreign athletes.

“With electronic timing, we will reduce cheating in the whole marathon. This is a good step in managing races in the country,” said Mutai.
