Newcomers Kitelakapel and Kitale are North Rift KATTI football champions

Newcomers Kitelakapel Technical Training Institute shocked perennial institutions to lift the Kenya Association of Technical training institutes (KATTI) North Rift men’s football.

In a final match played at the Eldoret Polytechnic, Kitelakapel overthrow champion Kitale Polytechnic 4-3 in post-match penalties to be crowned the champions following one-all draw in regulation time.

Coached by Boaz Yatich, the determined Kitelakapel had lost to Rift Valley Training Institute  3-0 before beating Turkana East TVC and Eldama Ravine with identical score of 4-0. They knocked out Kiminini TTI 2-0 in the quarters, then the hosts 4-2 in post match penalities after a 1-1.

Yatich now eyes representing the north rift region in his maiden national championships to be held in Eldoret at the same grounds from 19th June 2024.

Yatich was happy with his team’s performance despite facing challenges with training and preparing for the competitions.

Kitale national polytechnic head coach Wafula Titus wasn’t pleased with his side having been dethroned the men’s title. Wafula said his focus is returning to Eldoret in a fortnight to win the national title.

“Our game plan did not work, the opponents were a tough side and luck was not smiling our way today, we are now returning to the drawing board to prepare for the nationals and we hope to perform better,’’ he said.

In women football, Koshin Technical Training Institute beat Kitale National Polytechnic 2-0. Monica Etot and Pauline Machimbo scoring on both ends of the halves to earn Koshin first position in the regional games.

Koshin had knocked out Kitelakapel ladies 3-0 while Kitale beat hosts 1-0 in the semis on Friday before the two locked horns on Saturday.

In basketball men Rift valley technical training institute (RVTTI) emerged winners beating Eldoret Polytechnic as Kitale beat Eldama Ravine to seal the podium finish. In ladies matches, Eldoret Polychtechnic emerged champions against rivals Kitale while RVTTI finished third after seeing off Baringo National polytechnic.

RVTTI finished first are the netball beating Kitale while Eldoret were better side against Koshit TTI.
