A month after winning Boston marathon, two time world 5,000m champion Hellen Onsando Obiri edged out Olympic Marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir to retain the Great Manchester Run 10km road race title in the United Kingdom.
The double Olympic Games 5,000m silver medalist won the title in 31:14 ahead of Jepchirchir in 31:59 as Briton Calli Thackery was third in 32:51.
In the men’s category, Italy’s Eyob Faniel crossed the line first in 28:27 ahead of home athlete Marc Scott, who clocked 28:31, while Stewart Mcsweyn from Australia was third in 28:35.
