Obiri, Kipyegon, Chelagat, Cherono’s world record shattered

Kenya’s quartet of world 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri, Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon Irene Chelagat and former Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Mercy Cherono world record shattered.

The Kenya’s women’s 4x1500m World Relay record was shattered on Friday by the Bowerman Track Club quartet of Colleen Quigley, Elise Cranny, Karissa Schweizer, and Shelby yesterday at the Big Friendly 3 in Newburg, Oregon.

Cherono, Kipyegon, Jelagat and Obiri set the 4x1500m World Relay Record of 16:33.58 at the inaugural 2014 IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas.

The Bowerman quartet brought it down when they set a new world mark of 16:27.02 to break the old record of 16:33.58 set by the Kenyans in Bahamas.

The fact that they broke the world record was far from a surprise to 16:04.86 (4:01.22 per woman).
