Two-time world 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri is the favourite Kenyan athlete at tomorrow’s New York City marathon.
Obiri, who left track for road running will be teaming up with compatriot’s double world marathon champion Edna Kiplagat, Viola Lagat, Sharon Lokedi and Caroline Rotich.
However, they will have to content with top runners like Kenyan-born Israelite Lonah Chemtai Salpeter, Ethiopians world marathon champion Gotytom Gebreslase, and Senbere Teferi, USA’s Des Linden among others.
In men, reigning Boston Marathon champion Evans Chebet will take on defending champion Albert Korir.
But the duo will be competing against a strong team who includes former London Marathon champion Ethiopia’s Shura Kitata, Brazilian Daniel Do Nascimento, Olympics silver medalist Dutch’s Abdi Nageeye.
