Kenya’s national record holder in 400m Mercy Oketch has qualified to compete at the semifinals of the ongoing World Athletics Indoor championships in Kujawy Pomorze in Poland.
The Kenyans Oketch, competing in the 400m finishing second at 51.57 with Czech Republic’s Lurdes Manuel winning in 51.08 to advance to the semifinals.
In the men’s 400m, Brian Tinega also progressed after finishing second in 46.21 behind Canada’s Christopher Morales-Williams (45.51) to also make it to the semis.
Competing in the 800m, Rosemary Longisa and Gladys Chepngetich missed the slots into the semis. Longisa finished 6th at 2:03.48with Keely Hodgkinson winning at 2:00.32 followed by Valentina Rosamilia and Nina Vukovic.
While Chepngetich came 5th too in the 800m at 2:02.23 with Norway’s Pernille Antonsen winning followed by Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin and Spain’s Rocio Arroyo.
In the men’s 800m, Noah Kibet advanced to the semi-finals after winning his heat in 1:45.84 ahead of Maceij Wyderka and Sean Dolan.
