Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga netted a brace when Al Duhail defeated Al Arabi at the Qatar Star League today.
The former Kashiwa Reysol player has scored a total of 15 goals and his two goals were the only ones needed in the 2-0 win at the Grand Hamad Stadium.
At 27, he scored the opener in the 4th minute before adding the second in the 48th minute to open a four-goal gap on his closest challenger in the top scorer’s race, Al Sadd’s Baghdad Bounedjah.
Bounedjah bagged the league’s top scorer’s gong in the 2020/21 season with 21 goals. It appears Olunga will make him sweat this season if he is to retain that accolade.
Al Duhail’s next league assignment in the 12-team competition is away to Al Gharafa on January 13.
Al Sadd leads with 31 points from 11 matches followed by Al Duhail (29), Al Gharafa (23) and Al Arabi (20). The three have played 13 matches each.
