Over 30 teams to battle for Rift Valley Handball super Cup title

Over 30 teams are set to battle for the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) Rift Valley Super Cup this weekend to be held at the Kapsabet ASK Showground in Nandi County.

The two day event will be great for Rift valley based teams to showcase their talent that kicks off on Saturday 31st to Sunday 1st.

The KHF Rift Valley Secretary General Gilbert Chumba said that many teams have confirmed their participation and more are expected to ink their names for the tournament.

“We have had good teams registering for the tournament and as we progress, the may have many of them coming on board with a purpose,” said Chumba.

However, he urged many ladies to join the discipline where they will only compete in one area unlike in men, who will compete in both junior and senior ranks.

“I would like to urge ladies to take this sport seriously to promote the sport in the region. Currently, we have one club that is fully registered and heading into such a tournament, we need ladies to showcase their talent,” said Chumba.

Before going to press this morning, 22 teams as at 10.30am had already registered where the competition will be played in three categories: senior men, junior men and ladies teams. According to the list, so far there are eight men, ten junior men and six ladies clubs have penned for the tournament with expectations of 10-15 clubs in each category.

“We have decided to have these categories, senior men, junior men and ladies because there are no junior ladies playing handball. What we have done is mixing the senior ladies and juniors to compete in one platform to foster the sport,” added Chumba.

He added that the tournament will be one of the greatest in the region and the most competitive looking at the teams that have so far registered across the board.

The tournament, being organized by the KHF federation officials, is the third one in the entire region after Nakuru and Uasin Gishu in the past years.

The winners will be awarded a trophy and certificates of participation

“We are looking forward to having a good competition and we shall be awarding certificates to the best player and the best goalkeeper too,” he said.
