Top seeded Kenyan Scrabble Player Allan Oyende will be eyeing to redeem his image at the Scrabble Kenya tournament set for this weekend in Murang’a County.
As part of his preparations for the Africa Scrabble Championships that will be staged in Freetown, Sierra Leone Come September 23rd to 27th, Oyende said that he wants to shake off the East, Central and Southern Africa Scrabble Championships (ECASA) held on the weekend on Easter in Gaborone, Botswana.
“I am well prepared to face off with top players in Murang’a because this is a chance to redeem my image in Kenya,” said Oyende.
The Stima Club player finished second during ECASA behind the champion Nderitu Gitonga where Kenya swept the podium with David Kimani in third position
“Heading for Muranga will be a good thing for me because I want to qualify for the Africa Scrabble championships. With such a big continental tournament, many players are really playing in tough encounters,” he said.
“Apart from qualifying, I also want to end the disappointments I got in Gaborone,” he said.
He added that he will be facing off with Nderitu, who will be playing at his backyard.
“Mr Nderitu will be playing at home but that will not shut my ambitions of coming home with the title,” he said.
According to the draw, the premier division has attracted 16 players, Division 2 with 17 and Division C 16 for a total of 47 players.
