Allan Oyende will enjoy a slim overnight lead in the opening day of Scrabble Kenya National Tournament in Mombasa at Kenya Ports Authority.
Oyende leads the field in the Premier division, with 8 wins +767 followed by Michael Gongolo in second place with an inferior spread, +702. Nderitu Gitonga of Kirinyaga County closes the top 3 with 7 wins +306.
In the Intermediate division, Paul Mathuu from Kitui County registered 8 wins out of the possible 10, with Evelyn Gathoni of Nyeri County coming in in second place. Joseph Karinga, first runner up at the last tournament, currently holds third place.
17 players registered for the Open section, with Jared Kayo of Mombasa County taking the lead with 8 points. Antony Njue and Andrew Muenga from Strathmore University closed the podium with 7 wins and 6 wins respectively.
Frierce competition is expected tomorrow as the competition enters it’s final day.
The winners will receive cash prizes as well as trophies and medals.
