Patrice Tomno sinks a birdie to win Trans National Bank Golf tournament in Kitale

Handicap 23 golfer Patrice Tomno surprised many golfers by sinking a rare birdie to win the inaugural Trans National Bank golf tournament at par 72 golf course on Saturday.

Playing on home course, the golfer was motivated by opening the first hole with a birdie and extended the lead all the way to the final 18th hole to lift the title.

“A birdie in hole one motivated me to set my good playing mood,” said Tomno.

With drizzling rains on Saturday night, Tomno pointed out that he plays well especially when the ground is wet.

“All holes called on me. I also like playing on wet surface and playing in the morning after some showers, it all went on well. At the same time, I have been training daily to sharpen my skills and has finally paid off,” assured Tomno.

He played level 36 net on the inward nine with a birdie, three pars, a bogey and two double bogey returning with three under 33 net with three pars, five bogies and a double bogey.

He beat his closest rival Eliud Weche who improved on his handicap to 09. Teeing off at handicap 10, two under 70. He played 36 and 34 in each half ahead of Philip Shiharsy on count back. Handicap 03 Shiharsy recorded 34 and 36 to complete the podium places.

Last week’s winner John Bore Chemogos was in 4th place recording one under 71 followed by Harun Ndegwa who played level 72 and Martin Kiplimo finished 6th overall after losing to Ndegwa on count back.
