Ugandan top seed Philip Mugisha took to the summit of the opening day of national Scrabble Kenya Kisumu tournament at ahead of Africa Championships to be staged in Kirinyaga later this month.
The tournament, which was opened by Kisumu County Executive Committee member for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sports and Information Achie Ojany at the Triple Trojan Hotel, meant good results for Mugisha who played 7 +794 who is perched atop the leader board on spread after 6 players tied on 7 wins ahead of Gitonga Nderitu (7 +538) and Stanley Mulaku (7 +350)
Heading into the last day of the tournament on Sunday, Mugisha will be using the day one lead to improve on to lift the title for the first time.

The Kisumu tournament is being used as a precursor for the African Scrabble Championship to be held at the end of the month in Kirinyaga County.
