Prison Kenya, KDF are AMACO/Paul Bitok volleyball tournament champions

Reigning Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) champions Prison Kenya and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) won the 13th title of Africa Merchants Assurance Company (Amaco) cum Paul Bitok Volleyball International tournament that came to an end today at the Eldoret Polytechnic.

Prison Kenya dethroned then champions Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) in women’s final while KDF won their second men’s title following their victory against Prison Kenya.

The wardress win was a sweet revenge after losing out on their local rivals KPC in the 2018 final at the same venue.

Prisons were 3-1 in 25-20, 19-25, 26-24 and 25-13 to clinch.

Assistant coach Azenga Mavisi said that the tournament will be the best motivator for the league.

“Our focus was to win this trophy then focus much on the league and other tournaments ahead,” said Mavisi.

KDF won their second title since 2014 when they defeated General Service Unit (GSU) at the finals.

It was a five setter thriller with the champions coming from a set down to win in 3-2 (25-23, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-09).

KDF head coach Pius Birech said the win has motivated them ahead of the KVF league.

“Today’s win was good and we revenged well against them in this tournament,” said Birech. 

At the semifinals, Kenya Prison edged out then champions GSUin straight sets of  25-19, 25-16 and 25-23 KDF were 3-1 winners against Ugandan’s Sports S 3-1(23-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-20).

Women champions KPC defeated Bungoma County 3-0 (25-20, 25-14 and 25-13) to sail to the final in the first semifinal to face Kenya prison women at the final after coming from a set down to see off stubborn KCB 3-2(20-25,25-14, 14-25, 25-10 and 15-11).
