Unmatched Michael Karanga won the second edition of Vasco Da Gama golf title, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 70 Golf club on Sunday.
With the tournament resuming after one week of rest, Karanga, who won an automatic slot for the 2024 magical Kenya Open golf championships with his Kenya Amateur Match Play title, fired three over par 213 for the title.
The Kiambu golfer stared off with two under par 68, followed by level par 70 and a whooping five over par 75 to maintain his series lead and pocketing ksh 120,000.
He said that he wants to compete and qualify automatically for the MKO next year.
“As much as I have already qualified for the MKO following the victory at the Kenya Amateur Match Play two weeks ago, I want to prove that I am capable of it to the top of the amateurs,” said Karanga.
He beat his closest rival Dennis Maara, who is also the Kenyan captain with a big margin of 15 shots. Maara from Limuru club fired +18 for the second position tied with Nyali golf club’s John Timbe and Golf Park’s Josephat Rono for the top four positions.
“The reason why I keep on winning is that I train a lot and focused more on putting and on the range. This has kept me in the game for all this long,” said Karanga.
Joyce Wanjiru was the top lady at the championships after firing +25 233 to finish in T10 alongside Golf Park’s Sammy Mulama and Kenya Railways Fidhelis Kimanzi.
