Renovation work starts at Kipchoge Keino stadium

Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret is set for second phase renovation after Sports Kenya in partnership with Usain Gishu County Government agreed to work together to raise the standards of the facility.

Sports Kenya and County government on Thursday morning handed the stadium keys to the new contractor Haibo Yu to start construction immediately.

The two facilities have been so significant in nurturing glut running talents in the North Rift region.

Sports Kenya gave kshs 304 million followed by County’s kshs 100 million for a total of kshs 403 millionoutside Kenyan capital City Nairobi has received over kshs 405.

The money is meant for improving the pavilion, terraces and expanded to accommodate more sports fans that will take eight months for it to be complete.

Yu said the construction will start immediately and with eight months the facility will be ready for use.

“We will be demolishing all perimetre that has been in existence for over 20 years, improve the pavilion to an international standards and terraces,’ said Yu.

With such renovation, the stadium will be hosting indoor games like table tennis, come up with underground office facilities and dressing rooms in phase one before taking on other areas.

“We want to make this facility a top class and work on time to ensure we work within I given time line. We will be working up to late night for us to achieve that,” added Yu.

Sports Kenya director Doris Petra said assured that the facility should be in use at the end of eight months.
