Riara School to host the national Chess Kenya Championships

Over 500 Chess players will converge at Riara School for the 2019 Kenya National Chess Championships that runs from December 11th to 15th ahead of 2020 World Olympiad Championships in Russia.

Chess Kenya Chairman Bernard Wanjala said players signing for the tournament have grown with the main purpose of not just playing Chess but empowering the players for better future.

“This is the biggest event of Chess Kenya and we are expecting over 500 players. This is an opportutnity for players to exercise their skills,” said Wanjala.

With the Open winner driving home a brand new vehicle, Wanjala said they Chess is not all about playing but transforming someone’s life for better.

“I hope the vehicle winner will have a chance to transform his or her life and do something great with it like starting a good business with it,” added Wanjala.

The tournament will attract junior players who will be competing for the coveted title.

Before going into press, there were 119 men registered into the Open Division and 36 ladies while 42 junior players had registered
