Torongo based athletes Richard Kimunyan and Lydia Jeruto are set to shine at the weekend’s 4th leg of Athletics Kenya Cross country meeting in Kisii.
The former world Youth 3,000m Kimunyan and reigning world under 18 800m silver medalist Jeruto are will be accompanied by Kass 10km 2018 champion Gilbert Kimunyan and world under 18 2,000m steeplechase silver medalist Cleophas Kandie.
Kimunyan will lead the senior men’s 10km following his exploits at the Commonwealth Youth and Africa 3,000m while Jeruto, the Ol Kalou winner will compete in 6km junior race, Gilbert in men’s 10km while Kandie will fly 8km junior men.
According to their coach Barnabas Kitilit, the athletes are well prepared for the event.
Kitilit said they have trained well ahead of the race as well as Jeruto to miss the world under 20 medal.
“We have been conducting successful trainings as part of our great preparations for the championships. The athletes are ready for the challenge,” said Kitilit.
Gilbert, after winning his maiden 10KM kass title, went ahead to claim his second win at the United Arab Emirates Abu Dhabi 10km race.
Jeruto will be chasing her second title in the series following her victory in Ol Kalou championships last month.
She won Ol Kalou race timing 20:26.2 to brush Dolphine Omari in 20:30.5 and Quarline Kiprop came in third in 20:32.3
