Kenneth Bollo targeting Muthaiga title as Safari Tour triples prize money

Royal Club’s Kenneth Bollo will be targeting his maiden win at the Safari Tour Golf series set for this weekend at Muthaiga golf club with an increased prize money.

Bollo, who collected 2.5 points at Thika Greens last month failed to make the cut in the opener at Nyali, Vet lab and Limuru legs but he has hope on winning at least one meeting in the remaining two to increase his chances of competing at the Kenya Open Golf championships set for March at Karen golf club.

With prize money tripled from Kshs 1 million to KES. 3 Million, the Professional winner of the Safari Tour leg at the Muthaiga will pocket Ksh 450,000 up from Sh150,000 in previous legs.

“I have to up my game if I want to make it Kenya Open. I have not had good results lately but I have hope I will do my best in muthaiga and the last meeting,” said Bollo who graduated into professional golf two years ago.

He added that he is trying to train at his home club before heading to Muthaiga over the weekend.

“I have taken training seriously to win Muthaiga title. This will be good results for me,” added Bollo.

Greg Snow leads the table with 75.5 points following his exploits in two meetings-Thika Greens and Limuru ahead of veteran golfer Dismas Indiza on 75.5 points while C. J. Wangai ends the podium on 55 points.

Today, series organisers Barclays bank increased the package for the golfers. Speaking while making the announcement, Kenya Open Golf Limited Chairman, Mr. Peter Kanyago, lauded both Barclays Bank of Kenya and Johnnie Walker for their support towards the sport of Golf.

“At the Kenya Open Golf Limited are delighted to receive this sponsorship and are grateful to both Barclays Bank of Kenya and Johnnie Walker for their continued support. With this significant increase in prize money we expect our Professional golfers to up their game,” he said.

The golf series, which was launched in August last year as a precursor to this year’s Kenya Open Golf Championship, has so far been played in Nyali, Vetlab, Limuru and Thika Greens, will be proceeding to the fifth leg set to take place at the Muthaiga Golf Club from Friday, 11th January 2018 to Wednesday 16th January 2018.
