Reigning world 3,000m steeplechase champion Beatrice Chepkoech, Olympic Games 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist Hyuvin Kiyeng have qualified to compete at the 3,000m steeplechase finals in the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Chepkoech, and Kiyeng will be chasing a 1-2 top finish at the finals at the Olympic stadium but not the podium sweep after Purity Kirui missed the oppronity to compete at the finals.
The reigning world champion Chepkeoch finished third in heat two by timing 9:19.82 in the race won by Courtney Frerichs (9:19.34) of the US, with German Gesa Felicitas Krause (9:19.62) placed second.
Chepkoech, who enjoys a world record of 8:44.32 also has the world championship record of 8:57.84.
Kirui, who ran in the first heat, finished fifth in the race timing 9:30.13 to miss out.
Former world 3,000m steeplechase champion Kiyeng won heat three after coming home in 9:23.17 to finish ahead of Marusa Mismas-Zrimsek from Slovakia and Ethiopian Mekides Abebe, who also made it to the final.
