Emmanuel Korir and Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa bowed out of the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Korir, the only 400m Kenyan runner was disqualified for a false start in the men’s 400m preliminaries today morning.

This was the second time Korir was competing in both 400m and 800m in a major championship after he made it to the finals at the 2019 World Championships in Doha.

Another Kenyan sprinter Omanyala, despite setting another national record in 100m also bowed out of the games in the semi-finals.

The two non-automatic qualifiers, South African Akani Simbine (9.90) and Italian Lamont Jacobs (9.84), came from Heat 3 that was won by Chinese Su Bingtan in a new personal best and Asian record of 9.83 seconds.

Omanyala and USA’s Trayvon Bromell, both on 10.00 seconds, looked set to clinch the two slots for non-automatic qualifiers but the fast Heat 3 ruled them out.
