Ruth Chepngetich set the world record after winning her third Chicago marathon titles held this evening in the USA.
The former world marathon champion won the title in a stunning world record of 2:09:56 to become to first woman to run a marathon under 2:10 by breaking the previous world record set by Ethiopian Tigist Assefa at 2:11:53 during the 2023 Berlin marathon.
Second position went to Ethiopia’s Sutume Kebede 2:17:32 with former world cross country champion Irine Cheptai (2:17:51) completing the podium.
