Jay Sandhu capitalized on home advantage to win the 4th edition of Muthaiga Open, part of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships, held at the par-71 Muthaiga Golf Club.
Fresh from his triumph at the Windsor Classic, Sandhu delivered a consistent performance to secure back-to-back victories, returning a total score of two-under-par 211. The win strengthens his position ahead of the Magical Kenya Open and puts him firmly on course to finish as Kenya’s number one amateur in the KAGC series, which concludes at Nyali Golf and Country Club in December.
Over the three-day tournament that teed off on Friday, Sandhu carded rounds of 69, 70, and 72.
In the opening round, he recovered from early bogeys on the 1st and 5th holes to post a two-under-par 69, highlighted by birdies on the 4th, 7th, 9th, and 10th, alongside a series of steady pars.
He followed this with a one-under-par 70 in the second round, starting strongly with a birdie on the 1st and adding further gains on the 4th, 10th, 17th, and 18th. Despite dropping shots on holes 3, 6, 11, and 14, he maintained control to stay atop the leaderboard.
On Sunday, Sandhu closed with a one-over-par 72. Although he dropped shots on the 10th, 13th, and 14th, crucial birdies on the 4th and 18th, combined with a string of pars, were enough to seal the title.
Reigning KAGC champion John Lejirma finished second at two-over-par 213, two shots behind the winner, while Michael Karanga from Windsor secured third place.
Last year’s champion, Michael Chuma of Nkana Golf Club, had stunned the field to claim the title.
