Scrabble Kenya to name Goa team after Mombasa tournament

Coastal town of Mombasa will be hosting the Scrabble Kenya (SC) championships where five players will be selected to represent the country at the World English Scrabble Players Association Championships (WESPAC) to staged in Goa, India in October.

The Kenya ports Authority (KPA) Mbaraki Club will serve as the last leg for players to be selected with top players led by Nderitu Gitonga, Allan Oyende, chairman Bernard Amuke among others are highly anticipated to make the team.

After hitting a hat trick at the April’s East, Central and Southern Africa (ECASA) titles, Word warriors, the national Scrabble Kenya team embarked on serious tournaments to also feature in the Goa team.

The two day event that kicks off on Saturday will end on Sunday where team naming will be done as they prepare for world Cup.

“we expect a big turnout as it is a qualifier for all our 3 international events led by WESPAC,’” said Amuke.

He added that all the Kenyan players are the best and they will be there trying to secure world slots as the team will be named after the tourney.

“We hope the tournament to be more competitive in all divisions as the cooperate season is starting soon,” said Amuke.

“The weather is perfect this time of year, just right for some fun on and off the board.” Busienei Hillary told reporters.

Down at the Coast, 18 games will be played over the 2 days in the Intermediate and Premier divisions while 16 games will be played in the Open.
