Serem/Rotich and Barno/Kipyego pair ready to rumble at International Pairs qualifiers at Sigona

The Eldoret pair of Kenneth Serem Kosgei and Harry Kipruto Rotich and Nandi Bear’s Elly Barno and Evans Kipyego are set to battle for the International Pairs qualifiers that will be played at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club on Saturday.

The two pairs are among the sixty five pairs, with a total of 130 golfers that have confirmed their participation at the third leg of International Pairs where the top five  positions will earn them a ticket to the Grand Finale scheduled for July 27th with top three performers securing a fully paid trip to Tenerife, Canary Island, in Spain from August 31st to September 4th, 2024, to compete in the World Finals.

Serem said that this will be his first encounter playing in the pairs and hopes to earn a ticket to Spain.

“We are training well to ensure that we earn the ticket for the coveted international event. I have never played in it but I have hope that we shall finish in the best position for the trip to Spain,” said Serem.

Barono, who last year played only one event at Kericho, will be pairing with Kipyego with hopes of qualifying for the grand finale spot.

“We have been training together and we understand each other on the course. That means that it will be easy for us to play good golf at the championships on Saturday,” said Barno.

The long journey kicked off at vet Lab on February 20th before heading to Royal club on March 3rd and now to Sigona.

To be eligible for participation, players must hold a valid World Handicap System (WHS) handicap and be aged 13 years and above. The series welcomes diverse pairings, including man/man, woman/woman, and man/woman teams, fostering inclusivity and camaraderie within the golfing community.

“We are thrilled to host the International Pairs Series qualifier at Sigona Golf Club,” said the Kenya Golf Union’s Tournament Director. “It’s an opportunity for golfers to test their skills and earn a chance to represent Kenya on the global stage. We extend our gratitude to the Kenya Golf Union and Zanna Leather Craft Ltd. for their unwavering support in making this event possible.”

Following the Sigona qualifier, the next stop on the International Pairs Series circuit will be at Kericho Golf Club on March 30th, 2024. Golfers are encouraged to participate and continue their journey towards the Grand Finale.
