Shanderema, St Anthony’s whip opponents 8-0 as school games start in Kakamega

Making their debut at the Kenya secondary Schools Sports Association  Shanderema Boys and multiple champions St Anthony’s Kitale thrashed their opponents at the opening rounds in football in Kakamega County.

At the Bukhungu stadium, Shanderema were 8-0 winners over Khorof Haraa with goals from Maxwell Wamalwa who scored a hattrick with Nixon Mutini scoring a brace, Kelly Madada, Collince Kati, Elvince Juma.

Head coach Kevin Asuba said that they are taking each game cautiously since they are playing at the national level for the first time.

“We started with these boys way back in form one and we have been preparing them to compete at the national level, which today, they have proved. Our aim is to reach finals and probably compete at the east Africa championships,” said Asuba.

He added that as they prepare to face Nyanza champions Agoro Sare, they will play the same format since they have mastered it well.  

In another pool A match at Mukumu Boys, Agoro Sare were 2-1 winners against Coast’s Serane Boys.

At kakamega school, multiple champions St Anthony’s Kitale humiliated Francis Kimanzi coached side Mitiliku 8-0 in pool B encounter.

Goals from Aldrin Kibet (2), Stanley Waswa (2), David Wekesa, Joseph Barasa, Gregory Agesa, and Allan Kasavuli were enough for Peter Mayoyo coached side.

In volleyball at the Bullring, last year finalists Namwela Boys from Bungoma toiled in a four-setter to beat Tumaini 3-1 in 25-21, 24-26, 25-21 and 25-17.

In other boys’ volleyball, Rift valley’s Andersen defeated Nyanza’s Onjiko in straight sets of 29-27, 25-22 and 25-16,with Vitengeni recording a similar score against Furaha in 25-8, 25-18, 25-8. Former champions were 3-2 winners over Ruthumitu in 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 19-25 and 17-15
