Kenya take charge in track and beach volleyball at Youth Commonwealth Games

Kenyan athletes dominated in the opening round of track and field events at the ongoing Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

All four Kenyan athletes roped in the semifinals following their victories.

In girls, Janet Chepkoech and Nancy Cherop were the winners in heat one and heat 2.

In the men’s Category the story was no different as Josephat Sang and Andrew Kiptoo easily cruised to the finish line to win their heats respectively to book slots in the finals.

Cyclists Daniel Kiptala and Billy Graham in their road race put in a spirited fight which saw them finish 14th and 15th in a photo finish.

In girls rugby, Kenya registered a second win when they ran rampage on hosts Trinidad and Tobago 48-0 before falling to Australia 45-0 as they plan to face Canada in the last match of the round robin format fixture.

In Para athletics then T35 women’s 100m had Faith Kavithi finishing 4th in the semis to book a slot in the finals ,later on in the evening, she was however unable to finish her race after she tripped and fell.

In the T38 men’s 100m semis Randy Odhiambo managed to make it to the finals which he ran later and finished 7th out of 8. In Swimming Sara Mose got to swim a personal best in the women’s 50m backstroke and 50m free while Aker Mutinda swam a personal best in the men’s 50m fly as well as the 100m free.
