Fresh from winning the national 5,000m title, Daniel Ebenyo Simiu won the 2022 Cape Town 10K road held today in Cape Town, South Africa.
In women, reigning Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion Stella Chesang broke the course record to win the title.
Simiu won the race in 27:37 ahead of compatriot Isaac Kipkemboi after timing 28:04 in a 1-2 podium finish for Kenyans while South African Namakoe Nkhasi completed the podium in 28:24.
In women, the Ugandan ran away with the course record beating defending champion Jesca Chelangat to second and former World 1,500m champion Genzebe Dibaba Keneni who was making her return from the maternity leave.
Chesang won the title in 30:39 killing the past record with over eight minutes that was set by Kenyan Brillian Kipkoech at 38:05 in 2019.
The elite filed in women, the 2015 Africa Junior bronze medalist led the world 1,500m record holder Genzebe Dibaba to third.
