Simon Njogu wins a century Coast Open title

Simon Njogu fired seven birdies to win the 100th Coast Open Barry Cup title, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series that ended today on par 71 Mombasa golf club.

The Great Rift club based golfer fired seven over par to claim, his maiden title in over two years as they seek for the KAGC title ahead of 2020 Kenya Open Golf tournament.

In the 36 hole tournament, Njogu started badly on Saturday, when he bogeyed in the opening hole par 4 followed by a par on second but birdied in third par 3. He dropped a shot in 4th and 5th and parred on 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th in the opening nine. He started the second  nine with a par on 10th, birdied on 11th parred 12th dropped a shot on13th but recovered well with a birdie but dropped two in 15th and 16th before he parred in 17th and 18th for five over par 76 in the opening round on Saturday.

Today, he started well with a par in the inward nine, birdied in the second bogeyed in 3rd and 4th recovered with a par, back to back bogeys parred on 7th, birdied in 8th and dropped one.

In the outward nine, he fired two bogeys, two birdies and five pars to claim the title.

He defeated reigning KAGC champion Samuel Njoroge with a shot. Njoroge from Railways led Francis Kimani of Limuru, George Munyao (Nyali), junior golfer Tuimur Malik (Windsor) and Paul Muchangi (Limuru) firing eight over par 150 for top positions.
