Kenya Women Division Two Zone B sides Solasa Stima Queens play Bunyore Starlets in a promotional battle this weekend.
A win for the either side will earn them an automatic qualification into the Kenya Women premier League next season for the Eldoret-based and Vihiga based clubs respectively.
Leaders Bunyore have accumulated 37 points while Solasa which lies second have 35 points in the last match of the nine team format.
Despite lying second, Solasa is still waiting for a verdict between them and Gusii Starlets whose match was abandoned after chaos erupted. Both teams had not scored before the match was aborted and if the verdict will be on their advantage, the promotion will be on the Rita Musoke managed side.
Musoka said her team has faced the challenges of girls who used to play in the team that have already engaged in weird activities.
As a team formed in the slums of Langas estate in Eldoret, Solasa Queens was set up to rescue young girls from engaging in early marriages especially on school drop-outs.
“As a team, we are targeting to be promoted to the top league next season. It has been a long wait and promotion will be a great opportunity for us to showcase our talent at the top level and bring back the football glory in Eldoret and the rest of North Rift,” said Musoka.
The club, which is anchored on rehabilitating and rescuing young and vulnerable girls from bad behaviours in the society. For those who are talented in the society, we give them an opportunity to play football but since part of the country has been affected by the disease, we are also affected now that there are no football activities across the board.
With just one match before the end of the nine-team league season, Musoka said they need to win all the remaining nine matches to secure elevation.
“For us to ensure that we are promoted without any mishaps. We need to win the one match, earn three points against Gusii, then we get elevated y,” explained musoka, the former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Uasin Gishu County women representative.
If promoted, they will be replacing Eldoret Falcons, who have already been relegated from the Premier League after failing to collect any point in the eight-team league in Zone ‘B’.
