Solomon Kariuki clinches Captain’s prize in Kiale

Home golfer Solomon Kariuki defeated Eldoret based golfer Hellen Yego on count-back to lift the Captain Prize golf tournament played on Saturday on par 73 Kitale golf course.

Teeing off handicap 16, Kariuki carded a solid 32 stable ford points to win Patrice Tomno’s captain prize shading off other top golfers.

The golfer had a rough opening nine, shooting a black on hole five par three but recovered well to claim the title as they welcome Niral Shah as the new captain.

The tournament ended the one year reign of Tomno as Shah will be spearheading the club for another year.

He sarted on a low note, dropping a shot in the opening hole one par five, staging a good come back when he birdied on second par five but dropped two shots in par four, dropped a shot on four and a blank in five par 3. He then dropped a shot in seven, eight and nine in the inward nine.

In the second half, he dropped a shot each in the three first holes in the second nine on 10, 11 and 12m dropped two on 13th par 3m recovered with a par on 14th tripled on 15th before dropping a shot in the last three on 16th, 17th and 18th to emerge victorious.

Yego came in second after losing to Kariuki on count back. Handicap 28 golfer, Yego sunk 32 points as Shah, who took over the club’s captain for the next one year completed the podium.

Niral, playing handicap 12 shot a point less kariuki and Yego to 31 takes over from Tomno.  Club’s top golfer Philip Shiharsy, playing handicap 2 managed 28 points to finish 6th overall after Major Simiyu in 4th
