There is change of guard at the Thika United as goalkeeper coach Joseph Ruto will take charge after John Njogu left the club.
Thika, which is facing relegation in the Kenya Premier League (KPL) side lost to Vihiga United on Sunday evening to increase relegation woes.
Njogu took charge of the team in May 2018, replacing Nicholas Muyoti, who had tendered his resignation on Tuesday 1 May and led the side for 13 matches before asking to leave and concentrate on his travel plans.
In his 13 matches in charge, as has been the case all season, Thika United’s performance on the pitch has by large been affected by financial woes bedeviling the club for the past few seasons. In the period, he has led the team to just two wins and two draws.
He posted his gratitude to the club management, players and technical bench for the support he was granted in his three months with the team and though he leaves the team stuck at the bottom of the 18 – team log, he hopes they beat the drop.
Last season, Thika stayed up after beating Ushuru FC in the two – legged promotion/relegation playoff and as it is, they are eight points off the playoff spot, having managed 20 points from 27 games. The team will next face Kariobangi Sharks on Wednesday 29 August
