Trojans hosts Eldoret RFC in the battle for Uasin Gishu bragging rights

Trojans, the University of Eldoret (UoE) rugby will be hosting returnees Eldoret RFC in the Uasin Gishu derby at the KRU Championships encounter at the UOE Grounds on Saturday.

Eldoret RFC, who trains at Eldoret Sports Club, will cross over to UOE, approximately 12.5km seeking to win the match from their hosts.

Following their return into the second tier, the David Wachia coached side registered their maiden slim win against United States International University (USIU) 18-17 last weekend.

The team, which last competed in top tier league, Kenya Cup in 2014 will be playing against UOE that has much experience in the league.

“We are preparing for the match just like any other match. We are not under pressure but we want to remain disciplined. We have a reason to win the match to control this county in terms of rugby. We are advising the players not to be carried away by first win as this is a different game as we battle for supremacy in the county,” added Wachia.

His counterpart Kelvin Mwisheni remained calm as he awaits his opponents on Saturday.

In the opening fixture, they edged out Kenya Cup team  Kisii RFC 26-0 at their backyard.

“We are going to use the normal players because we know each other very well. We even play together without a tournament. We want to extend the lead in our winnings. The winning gap might be too small as we fight to know who is the king of rugby in the county. As we know, they are also well prepared for the event,” said Mwisheni.
