Tusker crowned Premier league champions

Tusker FC are the 2020/2021 Kenya Premier League Champions following their win over Bidco United FC in their season finale played at the Utalii Grounds in Nairobi this afternoon.

First half goals from Rodgers Aloro and Henry Meja were enough to seal the win for the brewers who needed just a point to clinch their 12th league title in the club’s history. Bidco United pulled one back in the second half through David Orem.

Speaking on the achievement, Kenya Breweries Limited Managing Director, John Musunga expressed his joy following the team’s win today, their second accomplishment in the span of a month following their qualification for the CAF Champions League earlier in July. Tusker FC will be the sole representatives for the country at the continental tournament.

“We are extremely proud of the team for being crowned the champions of the FKF Premier League 2020/2021. The team has performed extremely well throughout the season and the trophy is duly deserved. I must applaud the work and effort that the players and staff have put in throughout the season to get to where they are. As KBL, we will celebrate the team’s triumph as we now look towards the upcoming CAF Champions League where we expect a positive showing from the boys,” Said Musunga.

He added “A win for Tusker FC is a win for Kenya Breweries as the team emulates the values and ideals we celebrate every day. The indomitable spirit our boys have shown throughout the season is remarkable. They have competed valiantly and have won in one of the most challenging seasons, taking the Covid-19 pandemic into account. The resilience that they have shown is admirable and we hope to see the same spirit in the coming weeks as they embark on their continental journey.”

The team now switches gears to the CAF Champions League that is set to commence from the 10th September where they will face Arta Solar 7 of Djibouti in the preliminary round of the tournament.  Tusker FC makes a return to the continental tournament after a five-year stint out.

In addition to their support for Tusker FC, Kenya Breweries Limited continues to actively support sports in the country through their involvement in Rugby, Golf and Athletics seen recently through the sponsorship of Team Kenya at the just concluded Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games
