Uasin Gishu County take charge at Talanta Hela tourney in Eldoret

It was a perfect start for Uasin Gishu County teams at the opening day of Central Rift Zone Talanta Hela tournament played at the Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret.

It was an all win for both boys and girls who beat Baringo 4-0 and 4-1 respectively in the inter-county chamoionships ahead of national championships.

In the boys’ round robin encounter, the Fredrick Owino side, Brian Shatea bagged a brace in the 32nd and 75th minute with a goal from Elvis Opiyo and Paul Mureithi in the 6th and 87th minute win.

Owino said that he won the ball from the midfield who were stable and strikers did their job.

“I told my strikers to either shoot or provide and assist, which they did very well. This has given us an upper hand. Also my backline remained stable, keeping off their lethal strikers especially inside our danger box,” said Owino, who is also the Mwiruti High school coach.

In girls’ the Robert Simiyu side were 4-1 winners against Baringo in a one of the one sided match at the same venue.

At 36th minute, Everlyne Asiranga was on target to give the hosts a 1-0 lead, Amanda Were, who doubled in the 31st minute and Tricia making it 3-0 up into the break.

On resumption, Cynthia Jeruto scored a consolation in the 71st minute but the celebration was shortlived when Tricia fired home her second goal and 4th on her team in the 83rd minute.

Simiyu said his team will be looking for nothing but the win for the young team.

“We are here to carry the trophy. I want my players to make a good name in football and that is why we are giving them this opportunity,” said Simiyu.
