Uganda, Kilifi invited to headline Driftwood 7s

Uganda Emerging 7s and Kilifi RFC have been invited to compete at the 4th and penultimate round of the Kenya Rugby Union National Sevens Circuit set for this weekend with the Driftwood Sevens at the Mombasa Sports Club.

The circuit set August 22 – 23, series leaders KCB Rugby who have won two legs-Prinsloo 7s and Kabeberi 7s are top seed in pool B where the Driftwood Sevens comes at an important stage of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit, following three competitive opening legs in Nakuru (Prinsloo), Kisumu (Dala) and Nairobi (Kabeberi).

KCB Rugby won the opening Prinsloo Sevens, defeating Kabras Sugar 19 – 12 in the final, before Kabras RFC bounced back to claim Dala Sevens, beating Menengai Oilers 17 – 5 in Kisumu.

KCB then retained the Kabeberi Sevens title in Nairobi, edging Strathmore Leos in the final to secure their fifth consecutive crown.

The results have highlighted the competitiveness of this year’s circuit, with teams now looking to strengthen their positions as the competition heads into its final three legs.

Driftwood Sevens will give Mombasa an opportunity to showcase the Coast’s passion for rugby while providing players with another important platform to compete at national level.

According to the draws, KCB will take on Kenyatta University side Blak Blad, Kisumu and the Uganda Emerging 7s.

Uganda’s Emerging 7s team is set to make a return to the Driftwood 7s for the first time since 2013 as they join Kilifi who have been handed the two invitational slots.

Division 2 winners NYS Spades are in pool D with Strathmore, Mwamba, and masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
